Group Guys

I was attending college and mental health and addiction group meetings for a while and drawing people was the only way to pass the time. I think that I got more out of drawing people in rooms than the other guys got by taking the "process" seriously.

Turkeys

I know that this was done in my senior year of high school 2001. The assignment was to bring in an old family photo and draw it, then paint it. The photo was taken of me at a zoo around 1984- -1986 with a camera that would redefine the phrase "point and shoot". It was a film roll camera, not a polaroid.

Rock Wall at State Fair

I drew this one from a photo taken of me in high school. It was at the state fair and I thought it would be cool to climb the rock wall. That was until I reached the top and looked down. It no longer seemed like a good decision at that point.

Magazine Women # 1, 2 & 3

When I was in high school, the internet was not readily available yet. I would spend lots of time drawing from photos in magazines. The first 2 are pen, the 3rd is crayon.

Jeff's look of disgusted exasperation

While at MCC, I worked on a presentation for media class with a guy who wanted to talk about men's rights. I would watch everyone in class and he always seemed disturbed by what was being discussed so foolishly. It being a stupid class, I had lots of time to draw in my sketchbook.

Denny's Girl

I was sitting in a Denny's near Buffalo, NY with my friend, Mike. We were getting lots of coffee and I was drawing because neither of us had anything better to do. This was either pencil or conte and crayon.

Fatty Boom Boom #5

This was the main model for figure drawing class. That meant she came in 2 or 3 times. The prof said to put her poses across the page and I watercolored it later.

Blues Brothers diner scene

I drew the Blues Brothers for my dad's Christmas present last year. It's one of his favorite movies and he's almost blind, so I didn't have to do a very good job. I think they're alright.

Figure drawing class 2018. The prof said to match the skeleton model with the projected image. My foreshortening on the leg is not the best, but I think it looks alright otherwise.

Anonymous Girl Portrait

This was done for figure drawing class in 2018. The professor projected a photo on a screen. I was amazed at how little drawing from life happened in that class. I was under the impression that figure drawing would include live models, but that only happened 3 times in the whole semester.

Grasshopper Draft

This was for a drawing class in 2016 or 2017. The professor said to use contrasting colors and I busted this bad boy out in about half an hour. I had to work fast in that class because the professor was the type who would draw on students' work with a #2 pencil (hard to erase) so I had to finish everything before she came around to wreck it. Then I would tell her that it was easier and faster to start over than correct anything. One of my projects ended up being done on both sides of the paper.

Marilyn Manson Drawing

I drew this in 9th grade, which would make it 1997 or 1998. I tried to get it into the school art show with the rest of my portfolio in 2001, but it was rejected because of who I drew. It was either pencil or charcoal on paper.

Macro Grasshopper

This is a mixed media painting/drawing from a photograph I found online. The wing texture was done with tempera and a sponge. I was getting ready for my display at the local library and realized that I needed more representational images. This includes so many different types of paint and drawing materials that it would be pointless to list them all.
